About us
On 15 February 2025, we will open the doors to PoMo – Trondheim's new museum of modern & contemporary art.
This is PoMo
In the heart of the city, we aim to create an inclusive and accessible museum for modern and contemporary art. This means that you are warmly welcomed, even if you’ve never set foot in an art museum before.
We aspire to provide you with outstanding artistic experiences comparable to those in the world’s major cities. This vision is now coming to life with the reopening of the iconic main post office, in a renewed appearance following an extensive renovation process.
The post office building
This gem of a Art-Nouveau building was designed by the Norwegian architect Karl Norum, and finished in 1911. It once connected the city of Trondheim to the wider world, and will now connect the city with the world once again by showcasing world-class art.
We have high aspirations, with the most important being to inspire lasting enthusiasm. Our door is always wide open, and we extend the red carpet to each one of our guests.
Our art
Monica and Ole Robert Reitan have been passionate about visual art for many years. This passion led to a dream of creating a world-class museum in their hometown, Trondheim. Here, they wanted to make international modern and contemporary art accessible to everyone.
The PoMo collection is developing into a museum collection that is relevant, original and of high international quality. We are also committed to ensuring that the collection represents a broad diversity of artists, across gender and origin. With this foundation, we are building a collection for eternity.
The permanent collection is complemented by two annual exhibitions featuring major international loans, with several works being shown in Norway for the very first time.
Events
At PoMo you will also find a varied programme of events that delve deeper into the world of art. We also offer tailored activities for kids, designed to inspire learning and reflection. We are also dedicated to creating the most outstanding museum shop in Norway, making it a must-visit attraction by itself!
With Nye Hjorten Theatre and the Britannia Hotel as our neighbours, we are right in the heart of a new cultural quarter that’s set to transform Trondheim into an international hub for art and culture.
We look forward to your visit and hope you will be inspired!
