Zero to Something (New Zealand) is a self-portrait from a series Opie made during a stay in New Zealand in 2011. In these works, the artist places herself within the landscape, exploring the relationship between the body, identity and the natural world.

This well-known image from the series shows Opie standing on a tree stump with an axe in hand, surrounded by forest. Unlike the iconic self-portraits of the 1990s, in which the body served as a direct expression of personal and political concerns, these photographs are more reflective, engaging with different stages of life and experience.
